We said good-bye to John and London on Tuesday morning, and now we're back in India and up to our eyeballs in our huge mango harvest.
We've been eating mango everything since Wednesday, and my fridge and freezer are both overflowing with mangos. I'm trying to figure out on whom to foist them, but everyone else I know is drowning in mangos, too. They're worse than zucchini, I tell you! But better tasting.
Here's the quick story of our trip home. We had a little trouble checking in at the British Airways desk, and I was imagining all kinds of dreadful scenarios until the attendant said, "Oh! I see! You've been bumped up to business class!"
Oh yeah!
I asked why (out of curiosity ... no one's complaining here), and she just said it was a full flight "and I guess you're the chosen one." Woot! I'll take it!
It turns out that bumping us to business class made the trip easier for the entire plane full of passengers and crew. Samuel did not go to sleep until the last hour of the 10-hour flight, and he got progressively more hyper as time went on. One of the many nice things about business class is that the seats are free-standing, so he could jump to his heart's content and not bug anyone but me.
The seats also fold out into flat beds, so Johnny and Evie were in absolute luxury. My own enjoyment was spoiled a bit by having a leaping 2-year-old to deal with, but at least there was plenty of room for his acrobatics.
We arrived in Chennai on time ... 3:30 a.m. Ugh. Within seconds I was drenched in sweat and fighting off coolies while trying to explain to someone who looked vaguely official why it was stupid that I had to pick up the stroller I had gate-checked at the baggage claim. What is the point of gate-checking a stroller if you can't use it at the next airport?
Home, sweet home.
But only for a few days. John came home early this morning (Sunday), and early Tuesday we're off to Delhi, Agra and Jaipur.
Are we insane? Maybe just a little, but we're having a blast.
I'll be back in a couple of weeks with more photos and fun from the north of India.
