Samuel is 3 (and 6 weeks)

Birthday parties around here are something else. You might recall Vibhav's Amazingly Awesome Fairy Tale Birthday Extravaganza. Parties like that one are old hat for us now. Face painting, bouncy castle, and balloon animals? Whatevs ...

We broke new ground, though, when Samuel and I were invited to a 3-year-old's birthday party that was held AT A 5-STAR HOTEL. The party was set up in one of the hotel's conference rooms, complete with bouncy castle, ball pit and carousel.

My favorite part was the army of waiters walking around with trays of french fries and chicken nuggets. It was like a cocktail party in toyland.

Here's Samuel chowing down on the buffet dinner (photo taken with my lousy cell phone):

Yes. That's right. There was a catered buffet dinner to go along with the kiddie appetizers and the preschool music piped in over the hotel's sound system. Let me mention again that the girl was turning 3.

Because we are terrible parents who care nothing for the happiness of our children, Samuel's birthday was rather low key.

We took Halloween rice krispie treats and goodie bags to share with his preschool class, and then had a nice, quiet family party at home. It was great! ... and stress-free.

Here's Samuel as the birthday star of his class. They happened to be filming a promotional film about the school that day, so he ended up a star in that show, too. He's the cutest 3-year-old prodigy I've ever seen.

Some of his adorable classmates. The two girls looking at the camera are Zoe (from France) and Kavia (from here), two of Sam's best school friends. I hear about Kavia constantly.

And here's everyone lining up to go home. The second from left is the girl with the 5-star birthday party. Will she even remember it? Doubtful. The cutie nibbling on his blue shirt is Arjun, another of Samuel's buddies.

Here we are celebrating at home. Notice that the birthday cake is melting ... Ganache seemed like a good idea at the time. It tasted great, despite the look. There was Nutella between the layers, too. Mmmmmm ... Nutella ...

There are four candles, rather than 3, because in India they always add a candle for luck. Gopal wasn't going to let me out of the kitchen without it.

The face of contentment ...

We gave Samuel a school bus with opening doors and moving parts and so on ...

He LOVED it!

I should tell grandmas and aunts that all of their gifts were received and much appreciated ... a few days after Samuel's birthday. It was nice to stretch the celebration over a couple of weeks.

Samuel's a big boy now! If only I can get him to use the toilet, we'll be entering a new stage of life in this household. Yay, Sam!
