I've been watching the BBC's documentary The Story of India with Michael Wood, and it's fantastic. I've watched four of the six episodes and been fascinated with each one. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in India's past or present. I've been watching a borrowed copy, but I think I might have to own this one.
I just finished the fourth part, which focuses on Raja Raja the Great, the Chola Empire, and modern Tamils. Watching the host walk through places I've been and telling stories I know is pretty amazing.
I had the thought as I was watching last night that my Western education (which was great -- don't get me wrong) skipped over at least half of global history. I had never heard of Asoka the Great before I moved here, and there's just something wrong with that.
