Since we were in Kerala during Holy Week we got to see the streets decked out for Easter. Kerala has a much higher population of Christians than most areas of India (near 20 percent in Kerala, as opposed to a little over 2 percent in all of India), and since Indians have no trouble wearing their religion on their sleeve, there was a lot to see.
Almost the entire route between Trivandrum and the Padmanabhapuram Palace was hung with folded palm leaves like the ones decorating this church.
Some Keralan Christians claim they can trace their church heritage back to Thomas the Apostle, who is said to have come to India around AD 52. I think it's fascinating that the nation that birthed Hinduism and Buddhism also has this ancient connection to Christianity.
