Labor Day

We paid tribute to the American worker by celebrating Labor Day at the beach. There's a nice little resort down the ECR (East Coast Road) called Ideal Beach, where you can pay a small fee to enjoy a beach with bathrooms, changing rooms, and not too many spectators. There are still a few dogs and even the occasional cow -- this is India, after all -- but there are plenty of attendants to shoo unwanted critters down the coast.

Samuel and his friend Jane spent much of their time playing in the sand. There might also have been some tasting, but everyone's still alive and apparently healthy.
Samuel is fearless when it comes to playing in the water. He's under the impression that he can swim, and no amount of dunking can change his opinion.

Some friends of ours warned us that Ideal Beach should really be called Adequate Beach, but we think they might be too picky.

There's a fishing village bordering the resort.
John had big plans for an awesome sand castle, but he abandoned the site to his "helpers."

Johnny played in the ocean for a while, but his idea of truly relaxing involves a book and a comfy place to read it. Oh yeah, and fresh lobster for lunch.

The palm under which Johnny lounged.

Evie and her friend Benjamin spent the ENTIRE day in the waves (except for lunch).
And a good time was had by all. I tried to get a photo of the cow galloping down the beach, but it was too fast for me. They're always too fast.
